Re: Sydney's Railway Tunnels



That was the plan until the govt decided cars needed the extra space on 
the Harbour Bridge for their beloved Cahill Expressway more than the 
trains. This was despite much protest from councils on the North Shore. 
But the Labor Govt at the time dismissed this protest as they never got 
many votes north of the harbour anyway.

Commissioner McCusker didn't see much grounds for protest at the time as 
Nth Shore passenger numbers had dropped on previous years (despite a  
brief upsurge in rail patronage following the tram closure in June '58). 

And so the transport mess to the northern beaches continues....
