At least given the theme of 'Sprinter' (normally a fast runner), naming
trains after sports stars as a marketing gimmick is understandable. Given
politicians generally preside over the ruins of railways, the only reason I
can see to name a loco after a politician is to suck up to them. Which
obviously didn't work terribly well in Bob's case, even if he was involved
with the ACTU and thus at least nominally the 'working class man'
representative. I can see more sense in naming a loco after Paul Keating, at
least he gave railways One Nation money, even if not much else.
