A metcard has 4 different ways to go into the machine:
Face Up, Arrow Forwards
Face Up, Arrow Backwards
Face Down, Arrow Forwards
Face Down, Arrow Backwards.

I don't know why but if the strip on one side the ticket will
go in, if not the machine will not take the ticket. With this
the ticket will go in two ways:
Face Up, Arrow Forwards (correct way)
Face Down, Arrow Backwards (incorrect, doesn't read)

Next thime you are on a tram and have an old metcard (incase it gets
stuck) try putting it in different ways (all four) you will see it
works of one of the three 'wrong' orrentiations.

Does anyone know how the machine works out weather or not to take the
ticket? I know it has nothing to do with the little hole.
