Re: 1150 and 1250 class DELs' in Townsville

Darryl,

The two heritage diesels are 1150 and 1263,and have been allocated by
ARHS Qld Division to the care of the new NQ Committee of ARHS here in
Townsville, of which I am the inaugural chairman. 1150 went through
three number changes during its career, but I do not have details here
at the present time.

1150 was the first main line diesel owned by QR, and was reported to be
the loco which hauled the first Sunlander into Townsville. It was
alleged to have failed just south of here and finished up being towed
the last few miles by a steam loco.

1263 is the only English Electric of the class to have retained its
original large round headlight.

Neither loco is at present operational, but we are hoping to get them
running in due course.

If anyone has any information or anecdotes about either loco, other than
that found in the usual books, we would be pleased to hear from you.

The ARHS NQ committee runs social meetings at the Townsville Railway
Station every second month. If anyone cares to come along, I can give
more details.
