Re: Ballarat to Ararat line status.



In the early days the siding was used for tests with Sprinters
(conductivity problems, not triggering track circuits for level crossing
protection).  Since then, all level-crossing protection has been removed. 
There was talk by WCR of running a tourist operation with steam, subject to
a track being connected into Ararat station.  The stumbling block here was
the on-the-cheap bridge replacement at the up end: designed for a single
(sg) track.  Ballast is loaded at a siding on the former Skipton line
alignment at Linton Jn.
