Last year I was Conductoring on Melbourne Cup Day, so between Terang and
Warrnambool we just got the reception of the race, and announced it
across the P.A.

The driver of a Jolimont spark last night was excellent, he welcomed
passengers aboard on behalf of Hillside trains (haven't heard this
mentioned before) before the usual stopping pattern, then thanked
passengers for choosing to travel on Hillside rail.

I noted when on the XPT that all PA announcements were identical,
following a pre-set format. That's fine for getting the info across,
but to my way of thinking, it gives you a sort of 'McDonalds' feel (ie,
you just know they're going to ask 'Would you like fries with that?').
A bit of individualism helps keep a bit of character about the place! :)

Cheers,
CH.
