The driver of the train noticed smoke when he pulled into museum station.
He inspected the train but could find no cause. To be on the safe side,
he got all the passengers off and took the set empty cars out of the
loop. What he hadn't noticed was that it had derailed one wheel. When it
got to Spencer St it damaged rail through the station and then came to
grief totally on a set of points. The train was not due to be rerailed
until after the last train that night to enable a crane to be brought on
site.
I can only wonder if the dragging wheel ripped out all the train stops in
the loop.
