Re: Victorian Tangaras?

For the record, Four-D stands for Double Deck Development Demonstration
Train and was built mainly to evaluate the viability of Double-deckers on
The Met. Car numbers (for the driving trailer cars with pantographs) are
6000T & 6002T (this is an incorrect coding - should be "D"), while the
intermediate non-control motor cars are numbered 5000M & 5002M (should be
"N" for Non-control, like the Sydney cars).

This train is only used on the City Loop, Belgrave and Lilydale lines as
these are the only lines to have been altered to accomodate the
height of the double-decks (the City Loop was built with the ultimate
accomodation of double-deckers in mind). In the past it used to couple
with Comeng sets in peak hour services.

While this train remains an orphan on The Met, plans for more should be
dusted off in the near future as the early Hitachi cars become due for
replacement (that's if Jeff & Robiin feel they can afford them!).
