Re:Clyde Engineering Day

In reference to your question Graeme Odgers, I will give you a straight answer.
According to the latest edition of Track and Signal magazine pg 46, an
aticle written by the Group General Manager of Clyde Engineering states that
the display of Clyde locomotives will be on Platform 1 at Central for two
days with Saturday 25th July open to the Public from 0900 to 1600.

Noticable absence of Clyde locomotives is any from Victoria, every Rail
system connected to Sydney by standard gauge, except Victoria will be
represented. Victoria was a large customer of Clyde's, having 285 Clyde
locomotives, compared to the 227 Clyde locos in NSW. Until 1982, NSW had 54
Clyde locos and Victoria 252. On recent publicity, Clyde illustrates locos
from WAGR(L) Westrail(Q) NSW(81) AN(AN) GM1(CR) and 4000(QR), but none from
Victoria. Clyde still has a plant at Somerton in Melbourne where N,G, and AN
class were built and are now building underframes and cabs for the Westrail
Q and S class. Would the Granville plant have been viable without those
orders from Victoria? Certainly NSW did not keep it active! LEST WE FORGET
THE B CLASS.

In any case it should be a good day to see locomotives that will never be
seen together again. Don't miss it!!
