DL's on passengers

There was a rumour floating around a few months ago that National Rail, as the
"hook and haul" contractor to GSR, was considering replacing the NR's on these
services, and especially "the Indian Pacific", at least between Adelaide and
Sydney and vice versa, and using double DL's instead.  This was at about the
same time that the double NR's started to be used on "the Indian Pacific"
between Parkes and Sydney, and vice versa, for various reasons.

I get the impression that either NR has gone cold o the idea, or it was no more
than a railfan-hoped-for rumour.
Anyone have any further information on this issue ??
