To which there is a quick and simple answer :)

Only the no. 1 ends were modified and upgraded to meet the current crew
requirements. IIRC, there were some 76 modifications! Given that
there's a turntable at Warrnambool, and no probs turning loco's in
Melbourne (either at Dynon or on the Nth Melbourne reversing loop),
that's money that can be better spent elsewhere - like on R711 for
example :)

A question a lot of people ask "why didn't WCR buy ****", where *** is N
class, X class, A class, and all sorts of other stuff in general.
Simple answer is - if it aint for sale, it can't be bought! The V/Line
S's are still getting around because they're required by V/Line Freight.
