GrainCorp

Having done some reserch on the previous discussions about GrainCorp, I
can now report the following. It seems that GrainCorp would like to
become a rail operator in Western NSW. To date they have had
negotiations with the PTU with reguards to an award for their train
crews , should they go ahead with their proposal. A draft EA is being
negotiated but some stumbling blocks include what to do with crews in
the off season. The PTU are against the idea of casual crews. Also
Graincorp is having some greif understanding the conditions of train
crews compared to their grain handlers. Also negotiations are also under
way with Freightcorp about the possibe taking over of some Freightcorp
crews in far flung areas. It seems that Freightcorp is keen to get rid
of crews at some outer locations that are on a fortnightly gurantee.
They see this as a way of getting rid of a liability. All this however
is based on Graincorp becomimg a "shortline" operatoe like Northern
Rivers, and feeding Freightcorp at the main lines. At this point it is
uncertain whether any agreement will in fact be reached between these
parties. This is somewhat different to a rumour from a driver at Junee.
Based on this info Graincorp would have to be an accredited operator,
just like Manildra. Also of note , is that the PTU have advised their
members that if the Graincorp deal goes ahead, redundancies would be
inevitable for some Freightcorp crews. Does this sound correct Tezza?
