MELB: Tram 12 / 96 Timetable (Weekends)

The weekend and late evening timetable for tram routes 12 and 96 sees both
trams running within a couple of minutes of each other. Now, both these
tram routes run PARALLEL to each other for the majority of their trip, and
I suspect more than 90% of passangers could travel via either route.

So, why not split the times up a bit? If I want to get home from, say the
casino, and I miss both trams it's usually a 20 min wait for my next ride.
Is there some reason (other than stupidity or laziness) that the Met
(Yarra trams?) can't stagger the interval between trams? Keep the same
service interval for each route, just stagger the times so that the dealay
for EITHER tram then comes down to only ten minutes or so.

Kind regards,
