Re: Glenhuntly Signals



When ever there is a points/signal problems at Ringwood the gate at
Hearthdale stay down because the crossing is programed to stay down if a
train has just left Ringwood.  A couple of weeks ago the problem occrued
and there would be a train in the platfrom at Hearthdale one at the
bottom of the hill (previous signal) and one at Ringwood.  By the time
the train at the bottom of the hill gets to Hearthdale the next train
has left Ringwood and the gates stay down even when the train sits at
the bottom of the hill for about 3 minutes.  


I don't know about major stations but level crossings are set to express
if the train didn't stop at the previous station and set to stopping if
the train did.  I don't know how places like Mont Albert work after a
station with a train stopping but not stopping there.

With the train that level Flinders Street about 9:17 for Puffing Billy
that goes express Richmond - Glenferrie - Camberwell - Box Hill -
Blackburn - Mitcham - Ringwood - Baswater - Upper Ferntree Gully -
Belgrave.  Has problems after Box Hill ie the train doen't stop at
Laburnam so the crossing at Blackburn sets to express but the train
stops at Blackburn and the crossing stays down for a while the
Nunawading (Rooks Rd) is set to stopping because the train stoped at
Blackburn but the train is going express so the train has to slow down
for the signal to change from red over red.  And it goes on.  So the
stations which the train stops at has the gates set to express but
should be stopping and the stations the train goes express has the gates
set to stopping when they should be express.  You can always tell this
type of crossing (just after a station) that decides when to go off by
the train going express of stopping because it is always protected by a
red over red signal.  When the crossing is before the station or not any
were neer one the signal usally just shows the clearence ie yellow over
red or green over red.  these don't need protection because if the train
is goin to stop or not at the staion on the other side doesn't effect
the warning time for cars.
