How about:

Illawarra Light Rail Museum
Steam train and tram rides.
Open 2nd sunday of every month and public holidays.
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday by arrangement.
BBQ and picnic areas.
Tongarra Road, Albion Park
Phone: (042) 96 1176, (042) 32 2488

This would be a short taxi ride from Albion Park railway station, about
100km south of Sydney.

If you're in the Illawarra, you might also want to take a trip on the
Cockatoo Run, which runs from Wollongong up the escarpment; it often uses
a 3801 steam engine. You can look at the timetable at:

http://www.uow.edu.au/general/transport/cityrail/

(The link to the 3810 web server was broken when I tried this; you can also
call them on 1800 643801.)

Then there's the NSW Rail Transport Museum at Thirlmere, which is on
the web:
