The situation appeared to be worsened by problems moving train crews around.
The 10:17 Wyong train didn't leave Central until 10:45 ish because the guard
was delayed on another train. The train was then delayed at strathfield for
another 25 minutes waiting for another guard (so the announcement said). I
saw the 10:02 Lithgow train leave central at 10:40, presumably because of a
similar crewing problem. Surely Cityrail could have some crew standby plan so
that trains aren't delayed by up to 1 hour simply because technical problems
provent some crew members getting to their trains on time? Are there
operational rules that prevent rosters being swapped at short notice to work
around these types of problems?
