The Orbost(?) turntable has been moved up to Bairnsdale, supposedly as
part of a proposed tourist railway between Sale and Bairnsdale.
>The S is single ended and
>the B is effectively single ended (sound proofing and so on only
>carried out at one end)
B61 (and some of the S locos?) was restricted to second unit running for
some time because sound proofing had ot been carried out. A plate was put
on the control pedestal restricting it to notch 4 (could still run in
notch 8 when trailing another loco) so crews wouldn't be tempted to run it
leading unit (as I'm told many were). However a B can still reach 115km/h
in notch 4, just takes a bit longer.
