There are other down express trains pass through Mitcham, if you take
those empty cars into account, as below:

PRIOR TO JOLIMONT RETALISATION PROJECT AREA 1 (COMMENCE ON 15/11/97)

** UP **

Doesn't Matter about UP trains as the same warning time is given to Stopping and express trains. As the station is after the level crossing for UP trains.

** DOWN **
(2591) 05.30 DW RWD (Ex-Mitcham) [Forms (3107) 05.42 BEG, Ex-RWD]
(2593) 06.06 DW RWD (Ex-Mitcham) [Forms (3305) 06.12 LIL, Ex-RWD]
(2595) 06.22 DW RWD (Ex-Mitcham) [Forms (3307) 06.29 LIL, Ex-RWD]
(2597) 07.06 DW RWD (Ex-Mitcham) [Forms (3311) 07.15 LIL, Ex-RWD]

As all of these trains come out of the Siding there then they going slowly across the crossovers but here the problem is Hearthdale as the train will be considered to have
stopped at Mitcham the stopping warning will be given at Hearthdale and the train will have to slow down.

(2509) 10.00 DW RWD (Ex-Flinders Street)

This train comes express through Nunawading so the gates are set to express and that is the warning needed.

AFTER COMMENCEMENT OF JOLIMONT RETALISATION PROJECT AREA 1 (AFTER
15/11/97)

** UP **

As Above

** DOWN **
(2591) 05.30 DW RWD (Ex-Mitcham) [Forms (3107) 05.42 BEG, Ex-RWD]
(2593) 06.06 DW RWD (Ex-Mitcham) [Forms (3305) 06.12 LIL, Ex-RWD]
(2595) 06.22 DW RWD (Ex-Mitcham) [Forms (3307) 06.29 LIL, Ex-RWD]
(2597) 07.06 DW RWD (Ex-Mitcham) [Forms (3311) 07.15 LIL, Ex-RWD]

As Above

(2507) 09.50 DW RWD (Ex-Flinders Street)

As Above

Cheers

So there is still the one train that has exception to the rule at Mitcham Road so manual setting is needed. For Hearthdale Road for the trains ex Mitcham the signaler at
Mitcham could set the setting at Mitcham to say the train went express through and then Hearthdale would be set to express.

What happened in the days of trains non stop at Hearthdale (Rooks Road warning) and Laburnam (Middlebough Road warning as it stopped at Blackburn)?

Does any one have the signal diagram for Mitcham? What is the Down Auto Signall at the station? Red over Red or Green over Red?

Thanks
