I understand that an initial inspection of the three wrecked locomotives
took place on Thursday 6/11 .It would appear that 8219 will be declared
a write off.The other two however, may be rebuilt depending on the final
quotes for repair. One option being considered is for the construction of
1 to 3 new locos as an extension of the Westrail type S Class. These
4000hp units would better suite the Hunter coal train haulage.
Incidently, the three wrecks are located at the Brambles truck yard at
Carrington. I hear that all three are presently laying on their side and
that they will be lifted and sat upright some time next week to allow
for the assesment to be completed.
More news as it happens
