I'll make this request as brief as I can......My young son asks me alot
about trains...We often watch them shunting & getting ready for trips at
the local train station. (In Warrnambool home of West Coast Rail).
Does anyone out there know of a site where you can find information on
the different classes of locomotives used in Victoria?
I don't know much at all about trains and was interested in finding out
how locomotives are assigned class names eg: 'B'class, 'S' class, power
of the engines etc.I am interested in knowing the origins of some of the
designs eg: are they totally designed in Australia or designed elsewhere
with modifications to suit our conditions etc.
Also can anyone please explain what a Pacific class steam loco is. My
son has a 'World Steam' video and they talk about A3 Pacifics (FLYING
SCOTSMAN, I think, is an A3) and A4 Pacifics in Britain (MALLARD is an
A4 ?). What is the difference between an A3 Pacific and an A4 Pacific?
Thanks very much in anticipation.
