In the first instance, David is quite correct, so what are YOU talking
about?

There are some good sources of GM class info, one of the best recent
ones is the April 97 issue of Australian Model Railway Magazine.

In their article (and other sources), it is explained that GM1-11 were
designated the GM1, Phase 1, F or First Series, as David pointed out
above.

GM12-47 were designated S series (second?), or Phase II, Phase III or
Phase IV, depending on their configuration. I am unsure of any
reference to the "S" series units as "L" series.

And yours are becoming less courteous (not that they ever were to start
with), which is becoming a little tiresome really.

I would suggest "F" for "First Series" and "S" for "Second Series" may
be one explanation. Or perhaps the GM1's 4 DRIVING axles could be the
source of the "F" designation.

Because they don't agree with everything you say? Don't assume that
because someone else has differing information to you, they are
obviously wrong and you are right.
