The proposal has received a fair bit of airing up here
in the Territory, and the idea actually goes back to
the 19th Century would you believe.
The costs would be astronomical and a Political mine
field taking Native Title into consideration.

Some lunatic has even suggested using the Queensland
Rail network to connect the East Coast of Australia
with Darwin. The old break of Gauge again until Qld.
converts to Standard Gauge.!

All that needs to be done is to upgrade and construct
new line East of Broken Hill to allow double stack into
the outskirts of Sydney and build the Alice Springs to
Darwin Railway.

Remember the Hawke Keating Labor Government when they
formed the NRC, virtually wrote off the Broken Hill
connection for that completely inadequate connection
from Adelaide to Melbourne.
