Back in the good old days, Mortdale box would have informed each train of what was going
on.  Now that Sydenham controls that interlocking, I can see why they didn't bother.

It would have guaranteed that Sutherland would have received your call, but I would guess
that they would have been so flat out trying to co-ordinate things up there that taking
inquiries would have slowed things down even more.  This is assuming that the power to the
train radio computer was intact...
