pre 1924 class designations

Just a little note to see how some of you out there think and maybe get an
answer.
One would have thoughts that in the pre 1924 NSW class designations that a
modified t class, which in effect the 53 class were, would have the
designation Ta. So why did it get the designation of Tf
Secondly following along that vein why is the 35 class and in preplanning
the 36 class designated Nn 1027 and Nn 2 while the 34 class were the N
class. The pigs were a logical development of the Nannies with many
refinements but what is the link between the 34 and 35 class apart from
natural progression one would have thought that the 34 class designation
could/should have been Pa or similar
