My original point still stands. Are we going to put up with mis-management
on the CItyRail system because the UK rail system is much worse? Your
original posting was pointless. If you are an Australian then the winge
syndrome seems to have rubbed off big time. I would also examine if your
original posting was getting personal.

It is MUCH older than NSW's system. There is no way possible to run double
decker trains anywhere on the system to and from London. It is more than
possible seeing the decay going in and out of London, Liverpool and
Manchester. Paddington, Kings Cross and Liverpool street reek with decay, as
does the rail infrastructure in and out of these places.

We used the tube on a number of occasions last year. We didn't use the
Heathrow service which I believe is 1st class compared to the rest of the
system. The tube is a disgrace and impossible to use with any sort of
luggage, (which goes to using prams etc), and it is always overcrowded. But
of course the bus system in and around London is first class (frequency) and
one doesn't have to rely on trains running close to the timetable to catch a
connecting bus.

Yes, the Sydney system is of no comparison to the London tube. We are
reasonably lucky to have the system we have. Now, if we can only improve the
"lay" of the timetables and improve communication to customers (my original
points as I see them) then we would have close to a perfect system here. I
don't mind East Hills trains running consistently 7 mins late if they
altered the timetable, which is what bus companies work off, so as to
reflect the true running times on the East Hills line. The 5:08pm from
Central to East Hills never arrives at East Hills less than 5 mins late.
There are normally no delays along the track on this service yet it can
never run close to timetable. That is an example that sums it all up. If
trains ran to timetable there was be more leeway for departing buses should
a train actually be 3 to 5 mins late on a realistic timetable. By 7 mins
late the connecting buses have well and truly left.
