Re: Flooding at Lismore



The road is at least a good few metres below the railway at Woodlawn and the
Wilsons River valley is very wide at that point.  I don't see the line going
under there unless there is something bigger than '74.  Can anyone advise
whether or not the Murwillumbah Branch was submerged at any point in '74 (I
though it went under near the station)?

Lismore's problem is that the confluence of Wilsons River and Leycester Creek
occurs in the middle of town.  If both catchments are drenched (as well as
Coopers Creek catchment which is always drenched in heavy rain, Mullumbimby's
just had 349mm in 24 hours!) Lismore's a goner.

The biggest problem on the line is embankment scouring.  The builders of the
line did an excellent job in building above flood levels.
