Walter Myers (Chief Electrical Engineer, NSW Railways and Tramways) paper to
the The Institution of Australian Engineers, "Electrification of Sydney and
Suburban Railways", 1926, makes a distinction between "air-gap section
insulators" and "continuous-feed wood-break section insulators" per my
previous description.

It sounds as though the intervening 75 years have seen a merge in the
description for simplicity's sake.
