Re: [NSW] Truck driver killed instantly by XPT train

Actually the truck hit the train.
The first impact point was at the rear of the leading power unit
XP2011 and proceeded to damage/rip off the steps and some hand rails
off the next three passenger cars XFH2104, XF2207, XF2204.
Damage was also done to the electrics and air between XP2011 and XFH
2104 resulting in no lighting or air conditioning for some time.
As luck would have it an ambulance transporting someone to hospital
was passing as the incident occurred and emergency services were on
the scene very quickly.
There were no known injuries to passengers or crew on the XPT apart
from being shaken up.
The emergency services and train crew performed very well and the
transhipment of passengers and luggage was achieved quickly and
without incident.
In fact ST3 was terminated at Junee (it was running two hours late)
and the southbound passengers continued their journey by coach whilst
the northbound passengers off the damaged XPT were transhipped to
Junee and continued their journey by train.
A witness stated that the lights were operating and the driver of the
XPT sounded his horn approaching the level crossing.
