Re: OAM for rail writer

The citation for Michael's award was " for service to the community through
the preservation and recording of Australia's railway heritage".

Just by the way, he is also making a name for himself on the bench of the
local court in Newcastle, where he has been giving some of the local drunken
drivers sentences which they richly deserve. One young fellow was released
by the District Court last week shortly into his sentence, after Mick had
slotted him for two months following repeated offences. The upshot of the
case was that the young bloke was so shit-scared after the few days he spent
behind bars that he has promised immediate reform! Another one is waiting
sentence following a high-speed pursuit through the centre of Newcastle. I
wouldn't like to be in his shoes.

Graham Smith.
