Barrys Beach (not point) was the terminus for trains to Sth Gippsland
for many years long after the track from Welshpool to Yarram was
closed. The track deviated at Welshpool heading for the coast, going
nowhere near Yarram many kms further away from Melbourne than
Welshpool.

The line was torn up back to Leongatha in the early 90s (ironically
that was the seat of the first Kennet Government's Minister for
(Dismantling Public) Transport, Mr Alan Brown, who was desirious of
seeing rail go to road for both freight and passenger); IIRC some of
the rail going to the SG of the western line.
