Dispatch sends numerous copies of every STN to these depot stations,
whwre the vast majority go unread. It isn't despatch's job to decde
who needs what, so everyone gets everyting. I worked at Blacktown for
years and every couple of weeks on backshift we'd fill up two or more
wheelie bins with out of date STN's. No doubt this is still happening.
Some of them are 400 pages in size. They are an environmental as well
as a financial nightmare.

I have long held (and suggested) that the Wide Area network ought to
be made operational at depots and stations and relevant timetable
information for relevant trains printed out on request of train crews.
Surely this would be a huge cost saving as well as environmentally
advantageous.
