Re: [NSW] Olympics observations - Fri 22/09/00

Unlike the City Railway, the main west to Lidcombe and many other locations
I doubt the AL stations have signalling sections (correct term?)
mid-platform (is this correct?).

By way of example: once you have cleared approximately half of any of
Redfern's platforms the 2nd signal to the rear will clear to low speed (trip
lowered on a timer), and the 3rd signal to the rear will show caution
(lowered trip). If you overshot such a platform by in excess of four car
lengths and then reversed you would have a reduced overlap for a period of
time. (A serious rear end collision resulting in multiple fatalities
occurred in Chicago many years ago between a double and single deck emu in
similar circumstances albeit involving a greater platform over shoot and
subsequent reversal).

If the down International station does not have such a mid-platform
signalling section then the overlap at the rear of the train was not reduced
and would not have been reduced unless the full train length + a little bit
over shot the platform (not a problem in this case).

As for rules and regs???
