Re: Thought exercise - steam VFT

Some of the concepts discussed on this thread might result in something like
the Leader Class locos which were built by Bulleid in Britain (Southern
Railway) - Bulleid, born in New Zealand was willing to try out unusual
designs, such as the Q1 Austerity 0-6-0 loco and the "Spam Can" Merchant
Navy and Battle of Britain 4-6-2's, with their unique streamlining, and a
number of design faults, one of which would often result in such steam
engines catching fire and having to be put out by local fire brigades. His
spectacular failure was the Leader class which looked modern with a driving
cab both ends, and a separate cell for the fireman in the body of the loco.
