Re: [NSW] Derailment

I was on the Murwillumbah XPT from Sydney yesterday. Just after Strathfield the
announcement about the derailment was made and it was suggested that we may end
up an hour late. On time at Maitland with lots of TV cameras for Prime and 9.
Five buses left after only 15 mins. with heaps of bags and buffet stock to
tranship. Despite having to retrace our steps to Hexham, a long delay with
stop/slow signs on the highway, and another over the Manning River bridge coming
into Taree, we arrived only 10 mins after our scheduled departure time. 20 mins
of hectic transhipping saw us away on the train that had come in from Grafton
only 30 down. (Both the up Mur'bah and up Grafton were placed end on end in the
platform road with the up Mur'bah off the platform on the Syd. end, presumably
to work the down Brisbane later that evening). 24 down at Kempsey, but a
"signal failure" at Sawtell saw us 45 late most of the way from there. The
speed restictions over many of the old wooden bridges on the branch are really
bad.

I was booked in Bus E Seat 12 from Murwillumbah to Southport. Three buses lined
up, no signs as to which goes where - it's a matter of asking each driver in
turn until you find your bus. No seat numberings either. Finally got to
Southport only 15 mins after the tabled - not real bad considering.
