Re: [NSW] Olympic TT - Day 2

I travelled from Central - Penrith this afternoon (16/9, 1400-1600) with a
couple of stops on the way.

I catch a Richmond train from Central to Lidcombe. Central seemed to be
coping well with the crowds in the suburban section, I can't comment about
the intercity section. The train was well loaded but not full.

On arrival at Lidcombe, I noticed that the platforms were again coping well
with the crowds and good but not full. I saw my first Olympian (didn't
recognise the flag), shortly folowed by a Jamician guy, a South Korean guy
and a lad from the US Archery team. (look for the green above the photo,
people). They all looked like they were in another world (in a way, they
are).

I also had a look at the loading of Olympic buses on the northside of the
station and the buses arrived regularly full, unloaded and quickly loaded
again. I'd have to check the photos for the company names but buses were
sighted from State Transit, Wollongong, Albury, Armidale, Forster, Dubbo
among others. On the other side of the line, State Transit and Pearce were
doing the rail/bus service to Bankstown (once upon a time, you would never
see STA on CityRail work.)

Back to the station, I noted the big police flag flying exercise with many
police walking in the direction of Olympic Park. The barriers had some gates
opening as normal and others manually controlled into the open position.
Staff were doin a good job of assisting people and sending them in the right
direction. Ms DVA's announcements are still annoying (Glenn and/or Paul, you
should record her bus message for the Bankstown services!!!!!!!!!!!!!! very
slow..........I had to laugh at her "Olympic Period"!)

I then caught an Olympic Metro service to Parramatta. I noticed at Granville
that the yellow interchange signs had been cut in some places (crooked) to
match the sign's size underneath. I then caught a close to full V set to
Penrith. A lot of people boarded at Blacktown fresh from the horseys and the
shotties (Equestrian and Shooting, respectively). The train after the V set
on platform 6 was shown as going to Olympic Park.
