Hi all
I have recently been reading a book on high speed trains and noted how slow
our trains are in Australia.
I understand that the Sydney to Melbourne XPT runs faster on the NSW side of
the border. What is the maximum speed permissable from Sydney to Albury? I
presume that to cope with higher running speeds the NSW authorities upgraded
signalling along the route.
Could a tilt train shave off any time along this route using existing
tracks? If not, is there a train that can run faster on existing track
because of enhanced stability arising from its design eg Talgo because they
are low slung?
cheers Peter
