Re: Electrification and patronage

I have read figures suggesting that patronage in Brisbane and Perth
increased rougly three fold within the decade following electrification. Of
course, in Perth part of the increase would be accounted for by the
associated expansion to the network (Joondalup line)
Adelaide should electrify, build an underground through city line from
Adelaide station to Goodwood (stations at Rundle St, Victoria Square and
?Halifax? St) and reguage and join the Glenelg line to the network at
Goodwood. This would create an efficient six-route network: Gawler to
Noarlunga, Port Adelaide to Glenelg and Grange to Belair (these pairs have
similar loadings). The obvious next step would be re-open Northfield (in
association with some urban development) to Flinders Uni (extension to light
rail standard from Tonsley).
This project could reasonable aim to treble usage within a decade.
