The almighty dollar closed Christchurch, which is the same fate that Napier
on the north island also suffered. TranzRail realised they had prime real
estate they could get lots of money for if they sold their centrally located
stations, so they moved Christchurch to Addington and relocated Napier about
200m closer to Wellington.
