Re: [melb] new trams and seating

Don't forget --- "New" in transit terms very seldom equals "Better".
Usually it is just some consultants' way to pad his pockets and make it
look like it is better. At the present time, Boston (USA) is trying to
get some "new" Breda articulated low floor cars to run (they have been
on the property for two years now, and may have turned in a total of 10
days worth of revenue service), and despite their size their seating
capacity is one less than a single unit PCC car. The seats are all
arranged longitudinally against the windows and wall making the car very
passenger unfriendly. It seems like the more new trams come, the worse
they get.
