Victorian Controlled Autos are usually for either shunting towards level
crossings, or if the overlap of the Controlled Auto would foul a trailing
set of points. Thus at East Richmond, there is a crossover between the
Local & Through, and there was a Controlled Auto on the Local, as the
overlap was foul of trailing points, but on the through it was just a plain
auto, for the overlap only had facing points in it.

Catch is quite a few Controlled Autos in the suburban area (like East
Richmond) have been converted to Home Signals, just without a 'c' light.
Does this make this thread hijacked...?
