I can't comment on the 2 cars because I have never encountered the
situation.
I think he goes off at 6 car trains is because he doesn't see them as
being complete if you know what I mean?
To put it in a mathematical formula 4 cars = 1, so 4 cars is 1 and 8
cars is 2 thus being whole numbers and makes him happy, whilst 6 is 1.5
and watch him go.
