Re: Westrail Freight sale

Sorry to deflate you, friend, but "things have changed on the East Coast!!"
You are proud of your near 2 km trains, no doubt, but apart from Double
Stacking, you should know that at least National Rail [and possibly Austrac]
are now running very long freights through Wodonga every day. Every second
loop has been extended to nearly 2 km long, and when they cross, they do so
at maximum length.
I am not sure exactly what frequency they run at, but last night 4 ran
towards Sydney and 3 towards Melbourne, during the time it took me to go
from Wodonga to Riggs Creek Loop and back, about 4 hours. I suspect that
although we miss the Double Stacking here [offset of course by the fact that
we live where it all is...;o) ]
We would probably see a lot more trains, and the variation is fantastic! I
recently visited Sydney and the Railways in the Blue Mountains "blew" me
away......sandstone cuttings! steep hills! sharp curves! and Quad
Locomotives inching forwards in 8 notches, Exhausts and Rails Screaming as
the wheel creep keeps them moving ahead. A few miles away a string of loaded
coal hoppers passes at about 80 kph, and takes for ever to go by.......
Then I had to go home to Wodonga and last night I took X42 trailing 6 vehs,
121.6 meters and 176.0 tonnes down the track. Makes a bloke feel like he is
just "playing trains", don't you think?
