That is where community attitudes come into it. As for people telling people
off for not validating, it happens in Adelaide. I have seen it happen on a
train, and is the reason why police there were issued with free tickets (for
travelling to and from work).

Have not seen this. I have seen them in Sydney sticking up for the RPO when
someone was being abusive whilst being booked.

Again, community attitudes. It happens in Adelaide.

Validating on every occasion is not an inconvenience, and I fail to see how
it is different to the old system. With the old system, you had to get your
wallet out on every boarding in order to show the ticket to the conductor.
Now, you have to get your wallet out on every occasion to validate - what
(apart from sheer bloody mindedness) makes the current system any more
inconvenient than the old system?

Some will, many won't.

Still an inconvenience (which is the main argument against having to
validate).

But it is still an inconvenience. And we wouldn't want the passengers of
Melbourne inconvenienced, would we now.

Of course they do that - to do otherwise would inconvenience the RPO,
wouldn't it!

How are trams different? (I know, trams run on steel wheels on steel rails,
buses run on rubber tyres on asphalt/bitumen/concrete, but apart from that).

Because they own the system, they are entitled to do with it whatever they
wish.

No. I have never said that revalidation should be used for revenue
allocation.
