Wonderful media at work, again.

I wonder if the train was meant to terminate at Mortdale, but the
passengers did not understand the PIDS, DVA, Desto, and numerous PA
announcements saying "This train is terminating here, all out all change
please, all out all change". Happens all the time in Melbourne.

Did they say what the problems were?

It's "serious" when a train gets sent into the path of another train, and
the signalling allows this. Signalling should NOT and most likely will NOT
allow two trains to crash into each other. Train drivers on the other
hand.... Especially with lack of experience.

Signaller fscked up.

ISTR, there was an emergency situation during the week with a gas leak,
could this have been part of it?

Granted, in this case, the driver or guard should have announced this.

>How long can this go on for?

Until some manager agrees to be kicked in the butt, for admitting that
there is a problem, and actually spending money to do something about it.

A change of government will only help in the way Jeff Kennett did. "Too
hard to fix, close it - it'll save us money too!"
