Tangara Derailment , Hornsby

Yep, another one!

Lead car D6108 on 4-car Tangara set T 71 hit the dirt very early this
morning on the points leading from No 3 platform to the Up yard. Initial
unconfirmed reports indicate the driver overshot a signal, and attempted to
reverse, splitting the points in the process.

Rerailing was completed by 0630, and the set moved into platform 3 for
inspection, but with damage to the yard pointwork, platforms 2 and 3 (Up
shore, Up main) were still out of service. Up mainline and Shore services
were departing a rather crowded platform 1, and Up and Down intercity
services were operating via Platform 4 and the Down relief. Buses replaced
the local Berowra services.

Good to see CityRail staff well prepared, with no signs at the barrier
advising of trouble, and indicators and automatic DVA's still advising of
non existent trains from the blocked platforms. The refreshment room on
Platforms 2/3 was fully stocked and open for business, the owner apparently
unaware that barricades were preventing anyone accessing those platforms!

Looks like being a rough peak period.

Cheers,
