You could even use the new rolling stock that is being built for
Countrylink, for the NSW service, to operate it. If the train ran overnight
from Sydney to Parkes, then the Parkes to Adelaide sector could be managed
easily in a day. The best scheduling though would have it based in Adelaide
(Tu from SYD, Th from ADL, Fr from SYD, Mo from ADL) so that it did not
clash with Ghan/IP.

Perhaps the NSW government could contract the operation of the Broken Hill
service to GSR, supply them with rolling stock as part of the contract fee,
and then GSR could do what they like with it (provided they meet the
contract) - and part of doing what they like would be extending it to run
through to Adelaide.
