I've noticed that XPTs have a habit of losing time in the Sydney Metro
areas, even with a clear track. But the timetable itself has quite a bit
of recovery time.

I thought a plan was in the works earlier this year to add a bit of fat
into the Northern XPT times so as it wouldn't run consistently late.

Just remember: "Countrylink cannot guarentee connections where the time
between services is less than one (1) hour"

That always inspires confidence in me, basically they cannot guarentee
to be within 60 minutes of the timetabled arrival time.
