Re: QR management - was Railfan freindly railways (was: Left Wing Jerks)

Yes, Vince O'Rourke and QR management are intent on promoting QR and I
certainly would not consider them "left wing jerks"!!
As Ross has said what other State rail system is actively promoting
restoration of steam locomotives and steam tours. Steam locomotives
currently restored or undergoing maintenance include the following classes -
a DD17 4-6-4T; BB18 1/4 4-6-2 ; Beyer Garratt  4-8-2 + 2-8-4; C17 4-8-0;
A10 0-4-2 and the following locos are currently being restored to working
order -
a second BB18 1/4 No.1089; a second C17 No.1000; and an AC16 2-8-2 which is
also receiving a brand new boiler (currently under construction). The AC16
is due out of shops in May. It appears the only surviving C16 4-8-0 will
also be restored.
I also hear on the grapevine a third BB18 1/4 and a PB15 may be on the
cards.
Even with all of this QR by no means is backwards looking, their search for,
and use of modern technology must be up there with world's best practice -
tilt trains, track upgrades, signalling and safeworking systems, new
suburban/interurban lines (to the Gold Coast) and realignment of main lines
to improve speed and efficiency. What more do you want?
