 I've seen video footage of a what I think was early chopper model making
a decent attempt at it, the video showed a split screen - half of the track
ahead (drivers view) with intruments in the bottom of the field, distance
from Sydney and speed, line voltage etc, and the other half of the image -
panto-cam.

 The speed was eventually limited by pantograph bounce - the line voltage
started to spend too much time at 0v, and the arcing display was getting
pretty spectacular.
