Thats how it was in SAR days, not commercially viable,
they knew it and so did AN, but the latter copped the
flack for closing it.

The Mount Gambier line like the Victor Harbor run took
the longest possible way around to get there.  
Both lines were dead meat for the trucks, buses and
cars after WW2.
